PC Specification & Requirements
Navigator will run on most PC's.
The PC should be networked and have access to the internet - not through a proxy server.
The specifications below are for running only Navigator on a PC. The requirements of other applications (eg email, spreadsheet, franchise interfaces etc) should be considered in addition to this.
Minimum
Intel Celeron 1ghz
1gb memory
500mb free Hard Disk
Windows XP – Service Pack 2
Screen resolution 1024 x 768
Ideal Specification
Intel Core Duo processor
2gb memory
1gb free disk
Windows 7 – Service Pack 1
Screen resolution 1024 x 768
Navigator will run on any version of Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 - including 64 bit versions of these operating systems. However, the Navigator touch-screens used for technicians clocking requires Windows 7 for the touch-screen functionality to work.
Navigator requires the Microsoft Dotnet Framework (v1.1) to be installed on the PC - this is downloadable from this web site.
Active Directory based domains are supported, but it should be noted that the users will need to be local administrators of their own PC to be able to install Navigator updates.
Virtual Desktop systems (Citrix, Windows Terminal Services etc) are not supported for Navigator, but can be made to work; though no support will be given.
Printers
Navigator can print to any printer that can be printed to, from Windows. However, there are some printers which are known to have compatibility issues with Navigator - all low-end Samsung & Xerox Printers are known not to work.
For high-volume use (invoicing), it is recommended that a network attached printer is used, which supports PCL5/6 emulation (ie not GDI).
For recommendation on printers to use with Navigator, please contact your project manager,
Network Specification
For on-site servers, the PC client should be able to communicate across the network to the server.
For hosted access, the PC will require access to an internet connection which has open access to port 50010. It is known that the internet connectivity supplied by several franchises does not support Navigator (specifically the Volkswagen Group RCN Connection and Toyota).
Navigator is generally a low-bandwidth application. Bandwidth requirements do depend on usage, a typical 1mb broadband internet connection should comfortably run 15-20 Navigator pc’s in typical use.
